Proboscis River Sighting

Catch sight of the long nose monkey called Proboscis Monkey. These monkeys are found only in certain part of Borneo. Proboscis monkey normally live in harems containing one male, one to eight females and their offspring. These forest dwellers frequently come together by the riverside especially in the evening looking for food.

Specialized plant-eaters, proboscis monkeys appear permanently potbellied because of their huge chambers stomachs, which contain a bacterial soup that helps them digest seeds, leaves and green fruits, which could cause deadly bloating from rapid fermentation.

At dusk, witness the spectacular fireflies on the mangrove trees lining the banks.

These tiny 6mm long beetles belong to the Lampyridae species. They do not produce fire but a cool green or yellow glow in the lower abdomen to attract mates with their synchronized flashing.
